Right now official reports are that one in 110 American adults are in a correctional facility. one in 49 children are apparent in a correctional facility. Yes some are indeed innocent. Those outside of the correctional facility pay for those inside. We are all affected.
Restorative Justice ( one element of such - re-entry)
From white collar crime to violent offenders those outside of the correctional facility pay for those inside. We are all affected. This is the essence of Restorative Justice. Restorative Justice is not as the title sounds - it is a concept that adds to the existing legal system it does not change it. It is view of Crime, a concept of crime affecting us in the community rather than simply the State ( the Traditional view/concept).
For restorative and transformative justice, what is included in our minds eye is: Prisons programs, half-way houses, rehabilitation centers for perpertrators, childrens aid organizations, social services, mental health programs also victim/survivor centered programs to engage both survivors and perpetrators of crimes in a process that transforms the impact of the trauma and contributes to their rehabilitation and ability to re-integrate into their communities in positive value added ways.
